Who was
CHARLES FRASER MACKINTOSH
Teàrlach Friseal Mac An Tòisich

Charles Fraser Mackintosh (1828-1901) was a scholar, land reformer, champion of Gaelic, member of Parliament.  He shaped modern Inverness and the Highlands.  His book and pamphlet collection contains a wealth of material connected with all aspects of life in Inverness and the Highlands.  The documents and pamphlets he accumulated have often not survived elsewhere.  They are called ephemera because they were only ever intended to have a short lifespan and to be discarded.  That Fraser Mackintosh preserved them means his collection contains a wealth of material not found elsewhere.
